Horticulture Garden Plants

Cedar Elm
Ulmus crassifolia

Height:
The tree can grow up to 24-27m.

Leaf and Bark Type:

The bark is easily susceptible to other plants, such as Spanish moss in Texas, to cover the bark, damaging it and occasionally killing the tree. The leaves are small with an oblique base.

Where does it grow and in what conditions:
Although susceptible to invasive species along with diseases and pests, the tree does well in warmer climates but can deal with some cold. There are lots of species in Texas and some in Europe.

Pollinators:
The cedar elm is a self pollinated species.

Fruits:
The fruit is a small winged samara that matures quickly.

Uses
The tree is a native species and has relatively weak wood, so the tree does not have many uses other than being an ornamental.
