Species Distribution


 
Height:
The shrub can grow up to 3m tall and wide. 

Leaf and Bark Type:

It has thick, fleshy leaf that is green in color. The stems are a fleshy green as well.

Where does it grow and in what conditions:
The shrub is native to Japan and Korea but does well in the southwest states. It is somewhat drought tolerant.

Flowers:
The flowers bloom in mid summer, after 330 growing days. The flowers are white in color and very small. 


Fruits:
The fruits are a purplish berry drupes that is toxic to humans but is readily eaten by birds. 


Uses
The plant is a food for the larvae of many butterflies. The plant is also used for horticultural reasons. It is commonly used as a hedge in many gardens and yards. Regularly trimmed plants do not produce flowers or fruit.
